南極大陸 第４話 あらすじ [南極大陸]
昭和30年代。戦後10年を過ぎた頃、地質学の研究者・倉持岳志 (木村拓哉) は、日本の未来に大きな夢と希望を抱いた子どもたちの思いを抱き、タロ・ジロをはじめとする樺太犬と一緒に南極へと旅立った。幾多の困難を乗り越え、宗谷はついに南極圏へと突入、そして上陸を果たし観測基地を完成させる。
白崎 (柴田恭兵) 率いる第一次南極観測隊は南極での任務を終え、倉持ら11人の越冬隊と19頭の樺太犬を南極に残し、宗谷で日本へ帰っていった。１年後に行われる世界共同観測に先駆け、倉持たちは事前調査のため、人間モルモットとなって前人未到の南極大陸に残ったのだ。「 居住棟 」 を中心に 「 主屋棟 」、「 無線棟 」、移動式の観測小屋 「 カブース 」 に 「 発電棟 」 と建物が点在する昭和基地と命名された観測基地の各所では、隊員たちが越冬に向け早速準備を始める。隊員たちから少し離れたところにいる犬たちの中、ベックだけが元気なく伏せていた。それに気がついた倉持は医療担当の 谷 (志賀廣太郎) に診断を頼む。
越冬隊の一番の目的は、この南極の地でどうやって生きていくか、身をもって確かめること。南極で生きていくため、南極を学ばなければならない。そこで隊員各自が、自分でテーマを見つけて南極を研究することに。犬塚 (山本裕典) はオーロラ、氷室 (堺雅人) は気象を研究することになる。ある日、カブースでオーロラの研究を始していた犬塚に思わぬ出来事がおきて…。
